They will not only travel on your luggage as you are travelling, but also keep in mind when purchasing items such as second hand furniture, for example, could be infested with this insect and be transported into your home. Also as seen on social media platforms a lot of late, Bed Bugs will also be found on public transport and cinema seats.

Pro Tip – When travelling, before bringing your luggage into the room you are staying, inspect headboards and furniture for Bed Bugs, using a torch on your phone may be helpful for this. Storing luggage on a luggage rack is also recommended as a Bed Bug precaution.

  1. How can I identify Bed Bugs?

Bed Bugs are visible to the naked eye but are only 5-7 millimeters in size (about the size of an apple seed) and are a brownish red colour. As they are nocturnal and feed at night, during the day they will be hiding in cracks, crevices and seams of mattresses and headboards, making them a tricky insect to detect, which is why it is recommended to seek professional help from a fully qualified, licensed pest control technician to inspect for Bed Bugs in your home or business.

Bed Bug bites will be small, red, itchy bumps on the skin. Bed Bugs feed in a pattern so these bumps may appear in a line or in a cluster. A Bed Bug bite may cause irritation and swelling causing discomfort to people. These bites will usually be in places exposed when sleeping such as shoulders, neck and arms. Everyone reacts different to Bed Bug bites, some people could experience a skin rash and others an allergic reaction.
