Pest advice for controlling Thrips

Also known as “thunder-flies”, tiny (1.5mm) insects, black with narrow, hairy wings. They feed on plant sap and on humid summer days they may occur in huge numbers on window sills and get into clothing and hair.

Mainly an agricultural pest, they are only considered a minor nuisance in domestic premises. They have been known to trigger fire alarms by collecting in large numbers inside smoke detectors.

How to get rid of Thrips

Amateur use residual insecticides can be purchased from you local hardware store or garden centre to assist with controlling small numbers.

For a heavy Thrip infestation, we would recommend you contact professional pest control company, to administer a professional treatment to solve the problem. A trained professional will have the technical knowledge and access to a range of professional use products and equipment which are not available to the public.
